Donate to Support Food Education

Across three decades, Midwest Food Connection has been grateful to teach tens of thousands of students and collaborate with hundreds of local teachers who bring us into their classrooms.

Last year’s cuts to SNAP-Ed funding significantly reduced food education access. Midwest Food Connection is one of the few remaining programs in the Twin Cities metro, meaning it’s more important than ever that students see themselves reflected in our curriculum. Over the past several years, we’ve worked with local Hmong, Indigenous, and African American food leaders to create new learning opportunities that enrich the programming that’s been engaging children for 30 years.

Our former students remind us that our lessons have an impact long after we leave the classroom. Our healthy taste tests, cooking demonstrations, and gardening classes stand out as a highlight of elementary school, even decades later. For some learners, MFC has even influenced their career path.

In first [or] second grade, Uli [taught] our class how to make pasta. We all sat in a circle and made the dough. I remember being so amazed by the thought of making any shape of pasta. These experiences provide new learning outcomes that can profoundly change a child’s understanding, appreciation, and connection with the food they eat.

~ Maya King Cayere, Food Educator and Former Student

I don’t have many memories from that time [in kindergarten], having taken place over 20 years ago. The fact that I have vivid memories of [MFC lessons] is [a] strong testament to the positive impact the experience had on me.”

~ John Bosveld, Former Student and MPS Staff Member
